Caffeine Pages ☕ – Fresh insights every week

I’ve been reading Everybody Lies, and it’s blowing my mind.
The book talks about how people lie all the time to friends, to doctors, even to themselves. But when they search on Google? That’s when the truth comes out.
Turns out, Google is like a digital confession booth. People type in things they’d never say out loud. Their fears. Their struggles. What they really want. That honest data is helping us see humans in a whole new way without even asking a single question.
Three surprising examples:
Digital Truth vs. Digital Lies
- Digital Truth: Searches, clicks, views, swipes
- Digital Lies: Social media posts, likes, dating profiles
A New Way to See the World
- Microscopes showed us the hidden world in pond water.
- Telescopes showed us the vastness of the universe.
- Big Data is a new lens—revealing human psychology and hidden truths.
Where You Live Affects How Long You Live
- For rich Americans, location doesn't change life expectancy much. For the poor, it can make a huge difference—up to 5 years more.
- Example: Poor people live longer in NYC than in Detroit.
