Crazy Things That Are Actually True | Interesting Trivias

Here's the latest scoop:

Interesting trivias for creative people

  • What is the world's oldest known brand logo, still in use today? - Twinings Here's the link

  • What is the difference between raster graphics and vector graphics? (Answer: Raster graphics (like JPGs) are made of pixels and can lose quality when resized. Vector graphics (like SVGs) are based on mathematical equations and can be resized without losing quality.)

  • CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black), the four inks used in color printing.

  • Sticky Note : While "sticky note" is a generic term for any small piece of paper with a repositionable adhesive, "Post-it Note" is a brand name trademarked by 3M specifically for their product.

The Accidental Invention: Dr. Silver wasn't specifically trying to invent a sticky note. He was actually working on a super-strong adhesive, but he accidentally developed one that was weak enough to be easily removed and reattached – perfect for sticking things in place without damaging them.

The Yellow Colour: Here's the fun fact! As the story goes, Dr. Silver shared his weak adhesive with a colleague, Art Fry, who was frustrated with bookmarks falling out of his hymnal choir book. Art Fry tried the adhesive on small pieces of paper (which were likely just scrap paper lying around the lab), and voila! The concept of the Post-it Note was born. The yellow colour detail is true – the distinctive yellow colour was most likely chosen because it was the only scrap paper readily available at the time!

  • What material was the first computer mouse made of? How many buttons did it have? - The first computer mouse was made of wood and had only one button. click here

  • The space between letters and words in typography is called kerning (for letter spacing)

  • What artistic technique creates the subtle smile on the Mona Lisa? - The Mona Lisa is not actually smiling. The subtle upturn of her lips is a result of a technique called sfumato, which uses delicate layers of paint to create a hazy effect. - In a break with the Florentine tradition of outlining the painted image, Leonardo perfected the technique known as sfumato, which translated literally from Italian means "vanished or evaporated." Creating imperceptible transitions between light and shade, and sometimes between colors, he blended everything "without borders, in the manner of smoke," his brush strokes so subtle as to be invisible to the naked eye. - Click here

  • How many paintings did Vincent van Gogh sell during his lifetime? - Vincent van Gogh only sold one painting during his lifetime. Vincent van Gogh, 'The Red Vineyard', 1888. Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow.

  • What was the original name of the Helvetica font? - The Helvetica font was originally designed for a Swiss typeface foundry and named "Neue Haas Grotesk." - Originally named Neue Haas Grotesk (New Haas Grotesque), it was rapidly licensed by Linotype and renamed Helvetica in 1960, which in Latin means "Swiss", from Helvetia, capitalising on Switzerland's reputation as a centre of ultra-modern graphic design.
